Andy Dodman is chief officer of HR at Leeds City Council, the second largest local authority in the UK

Until very recently he was the chief operating officer, and before that the director of human resources at the University of Sheffield. Since 2011, Dodman led the university’s people strategy and service delivery for its 8,500 staff, focusing on the attraction, growth and engagement of world-class talent. Dodman has particularly emphasised the importance of personal health, happiness and wellbeing in the workplace.

His team has received external recognition for the breadth and creativity of their contributions, including from the CIPD, Universities HR, Times Higher Education, The Guardian, Opportunity Now, HR Excellence Awards and Stonewall. Under his leadership Sheffield is the only university to appear in the Sunday Times Best Companies To Work For list.

Dodman frequently provides advice to a number of other UK and international universities on leadership development, change management, governance and executive pay. He also mentors a number of other HR directors. He has been a trustee director of a pension scheme and advises the university's HR and wellbeing subsidiary business Everyday Juice Limited

Prior to joining the university Dodman held several HR positions within the voluntary sector, housing associations and the NHS.

Dodman was educated at the University of Bath (BSc) and the University of Leeds (MBA) and is a chartered fellow of the CIPD. He was shortlisted for HR director of the Year in the 2015 HR Excellence Awards.
